How much life is to be found in one silk scarf? Can you tell an entire story about uneven tension in a knitted textile? What about a pile of rice? Lisa Virginia is a Deviser, Director, and Producer who believes that the minutia of our lives are spectacular in and of themselves and deserve to be treated as such. With each piece that Lisa creates, they aim, always, to find the magic within the mundane. Their goal is to pull meaning to the forefront where before it may have been buried.

Lisa is especially interested in telling stories about racial minorities. They, themself, are Filipino-American and were born and raised in Flushing, Queens where they still reside. Flushing is a vibrant community filled with people of all walks of life, and it is there that they learned how important it is to eat at the hole in the wall Pho spot down the street and traverse deep into mini-malls to find crochet flower shops filled to the brim with handmade art. They generate their joy and inspiration in the people around them—the people that they rub shoulders with during rush hour and make similarly annoyed eye contact with when the bus is delayed. These are the people who Lisa wants to tell stories with and about.

Fundamentally, Lisa fosters collaborative rooms and theatrical worlds with strong foundations upon which they and their peers can create vibrant and impactful art. Lisa is of the belief that caring and intellectual processes more often than not lead to healing and thought-provoking products. So, why not cultivate one for the benefit of the other?
